Gaolao breed is the most important breed of the Central Provinces and is seen at its best in Wardha and Chindwara district. They are considered to be good milkers and the bullocks make useful work-cattle, if well developed.This type is a breed of western part of India and middle part of India.
They are known for its agility. This breed is also referred to as “Arvi” and “Gaulgani”. The breeding path of the breed includes places like Balaghat, Chhindwara, and Seoni districts of Madhya Pradesh; Durg and Rajnandgaon districts of Chattisgarh and Wardha and Nagpur districts of Maharashtra.
The breed is suitable for transportation in hilly areas. The breed resembles Ongole breed, except that it is lighter.
Gaolao breed has a coat colour that is blackish white in males and coat colour that is white in females. Males are generally grey over the neck. Horns are short, stumpy and curved slightly backward.
Head is markedly long and taper towards muzzle. Gaolao breed have forehead that recedes at the top, which gives a slightly convex appearance. Bullocks are trained for moving fast. This breed cows have milk yield which is low with an average of 604 kg per lactation and with 4.32% fat (This ranges between 470 to 725 kg per lactation).
