Hallikar is a very thin looking breed and it produces low yields of milk.
Originated from the former princely state of Vijayanagaram, presently part of Karnataka.
The colour is grey or dark grey.

This breed type is quite famous for its draught capacity and mainly for its trotting ability.
It is also known as Mysore and is one the best best draught breed of South India. The breeding tract comprises Mysore, Mandya, Bangalore, Kolar, Tumkur, Hassan and Chitradurga districts of Karnataka. It is white to light grey in colour.
Young breeding bulls have dark shades on shoulder and hindquarters. Horns emerge near each other from top of poll and are carried straight, upward and backward, till nearly half the length and then orient slightly forward and inward with pointed tips.
It has got white marks or irregular patches around its eyes, cheeks, neck or shoulder region. These animals are bred in semi-intensive management system by professional breeders. Green fodder that is given as feed to them, chiefly comprises finger-millet, grass, sorghum or pearl-millet.
This breed has an average milk yield per lactation as 542 kg and it ranges from 227-1134 kg with average milk fat of 5.7%.
