Malvi breed of cattle is named after its place of origin, which is called as Malwa region. Malvi is also referred by other names such as Mahadeo puri and Manthani.
Their breeding path traces back to Rajgarh, Shajapur, Ratlam and Ujjain districts of Madhya Pradesh. These cattle are generally white or white greyishincolour.Their males have darker shades with neck, shoulders, hump and quarters almost black. Interestingly, these cows and bullocks turn out to be nearly pure white with age.
Their horns are finely curved and they emerge from the outer angle of the poll in an outward and upward direction as well.
The horns are about 20 - 25 cm in long. These breed animals are well known for quick transportation, endurance and ability to carry heavy load on rough roads.
Malvi breed type animals are strong and well–built. The average milk yield in this type of breed is 916 Kg per lactation, with average fat percentage as 4.3 and these animals weight range from 627 Kg to 1227 Kg.
