Red Sindhi is known for its heat tolerance. It's a milch cattle breed whose roots are from Sindh province of Pakistan. This type of breed is also referred to as “Malir”, “Red Karachi” and “Sindhi”. It is considered that breed is evolved from Las Bela cattle of Bela, Baluchistan.
The habitat of this breed is around Karachi and Sind in Pakistan. They are also seen in many parts of India. Bull is darker, with well proportioned head. It has a broad face. Horns are short and thick at the base and emerge laterally and curve upward. This breed type has moderate drooping ears, huge hump, pendulous dewlap and sheath. The udder is big and often cernuous. Their teats are generally large. The average milking capacity of this breed is about 2000 kg. Bulls are lethargic and slow workers. In this breed of animals, the average weight of males are 450 kg and females are around 295 kg.
They are compact animals with a dark red color. Color could be red with shades varying from dark red to light, strips of white. The range of this cow in color is from a deep reddish brown to a yellowish red, but most commonly a deep red.
It has a very high genetic potential for milk as compared to Sahiwal.
This breed is otherwise called as Red Karachi and Sindhi and Mahi.
Originated in Karachi and Hyderabad (Pakistan) regions of undivided India and also reared in certain organized farms in our country.
Bullocks despite lethargic and slow can be used for road and field work.
