Team GoPals organized Uzhavanin aram, an organic farming awareness event on 30-Jun-2024 with the intention of making organic farming profitable by using desi cows. The event was conducted in Koyambakkam, Walajabad, Kancheepuram.

Pre- event preparation: -

Team GoPals got in touch with shri Veeraragavan avl., an organic farmer from Koyambakkam, Walajabad, Kancheepuram and sought his help in contacting other farmers in that area. We invited shri N. Vivek avl., who works as a professor in PSG Tech, a trained organic farming consultant and enthusiast. We had also reached out to many interested organic farming enthusiasts for registrations for the event through google form.

Event Day:-
On 30 Jun 2024, many organic farming enthusiasts who had registered for the event and shri Veeraragavan avl.’s invitees from neighboring farms came to the venue by 10 am. We were happy to see participation from organic farming enthusiasts, agri students and potential organic farmers.

Shri Veeraragavan avl. shared his success story of organic farming from one acre to 60 acres now which we are sure inspired many participants to take up organic farming.

After his address, shri N.Vivek avl. started his interactive session with the prospective organic farmers. He made the session very interesting by asking important questions that matter the most such as cost, expenses, current profit and profit that would motivate them to take up organic farming.

1. How to purchase desi cow at low cost?
2. How to get a high yield of milk from cows?
3. How to use desi cows, goats, buffaloes, Guinea fowls, and ducks effectively for various purposes like protection from insects, preparation of manures, etc.
4. How should the spacing between crops for various crops like rice, tomato, brinjal, sugarcane, etc be for maximum yield?
5. Why should every farmer do the soil test?
6. What parameters are important in the soiltest?
7. What should be done to improve the organic matter of the soil significantly by cow dung?

Post Event

1. Gopals organizers conferred the HEAL champion award to shri Veeraragavan avl. and shri N. Vivek avl.
2. GoPals shirt was distributed to the volunteers of the event, shri Veeraragavan, and shri Vivek.
3. A farmer expressed his decision that he will dedicate one acre of his existing land for organic farming. We believe this sentiment is throughout as shri Vivek addressed and convinced for the core issue - profitability in organic farming.
